“A group hug will sort everything out.”

Back in 2008, Yahoo’s Big League Stew began a campaign against the “hip bump,” a celebratory move that was running rampant throughout the Major Leagues. The Cubs, once one of the worst hip-bump offenders, are now part of the solution.  We’ve got Marlon Byrd to thank.

Marlon started the outfielder’s new celebratory HUG. Asked about it in an interview, Marlon had this to say:

“That’s just letting the guys know that I love ’em. That’s it. We play hard, get a ‘W.’ Get a little hug going, a slap five, that’s it.”

I was never a strong crusader against the hip-bump. Now that I’ve seen the clearly superior hug, however, consider me officially on that bandwagon.
