I couldn’t have been happier to discover yesterday that MiLB.com’s annual “Minors Moniker Madness” competition is now underway. For the uninitiated, this is an event (yes, an EVENT) which allows fans to vote for the players with the best names in Minor League Baseball (click here to fill out your bracket for the first round!) Last year’s winner was a fellow by the name of Dusty Napoleon, and there are oodles of worthy young men vying for this season’s crown.
Here is a little rundown of the contestants, FBB style…
Born to play baseball: Zach Outman, Stephen Batts
Gift! : No comments on the name, I was simply pleased to learn that Gift Ngoepe is still playing. Sports Illustrated ran a story on the South Africa native awhile back, and it was a highly enjoyable read. You just can’t NOT root for a kid like this.
