It’s January 27th. Snow, slush, freezing rain, and other general seasonal unpleasantness abound. I myself am encased in a Winter Wonderland this morning.
It’s about the time of year when baseball enthusiasts begin to throw their hands into the air and cry, “Will it never end?!?!”
Well, winter may be in its height, but lo! There is a light at the end of the tunnel! I invite you to grab a mug of hot, frothy cocoa and think happy thoughts. Here is what we have to look forward to within the next few weeks:
Spring Training: Pitchers and catchers report in little less than three weeks! Renewal! Rebirth! Optimism unbounded (and perhaps unwarranted)! Sure we’ll be ready for it to be over after five days, but that’s not the point. It’s baseball, people! Real, live baseball. You never know what’s going to happen in Arizona and Florida, and that’s why I love it.
Fantasy Drafts: Most drafts, of course, do not take place until March, but February is the ideal time to start planning for your league(s) and team(s)! You can’t be too prepared.
St. Valentine’s Day: In all honesty, V-Day doesn’t excite me at all. But perhaps my readers have more reason to look forward to it. There is also my birthday, but that’s no more enthusing to me than it is to anyone else. So… cough. Moving on…
SABR Day!: If you are me, you have a SABR (Society of American Baseball Research) convention thingy to attend in just 2 days. Not to incite jealousy or anything…
